INTRODUCTION AND FAQS ON:
LIP BLUSH
What is lip blushing?
Lip blush is a semi-permanent makeup procedure that involves implanting pigment into the lip skin to enhance color and or to correct pigmentation in the lips. Once healed the color softens a nice tint to the lips.
How long does it last?
Results will always vary from person to person, after your initial session and the touch up, your results should last between 2-5 years. Additional touch ups may be required depending on the person and look desired. Permanent makeup ink is not the same as body art ink, and by design it does not last as long as body art ink.

What to expect?
There will be moderate swelling, redness and bruising for the first five days. Apply a Ziploc bag filled with water and ice for no more than 15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling. During the initial healing period, there should be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. If there is scabbing or flaking, do not pick, and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own. Expect the color to eventually lighten by up to 40% once the healing process is complete.Color may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results.
Does lip blushing hurt?
Pain levels vary from person to person. Strong medical grade topical anesthetic cream is used before and during your procedure to keep you as pain free as possible.
How long does the procedure take and what should I expect?
The procedure takes about 3-3.5 hours. The consultation and prep work take up a good portion of that time. After a shape is agreed upon, the numbing cream will be applied for 20-30 minutes and then the process will begin. During that time non-toxic ink can get into your mouth which doesn’t taste the best, but is ingestible and non-toxic.
What should I know about long term care?
Touch-up appointments are optional. If you do not maintain, the color will lighten over time. Fading greatly depends on your skin type and tone, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, and your overall health. We suggest that if you want to maintain your lips so that they always look their best plan on scheduling a touch up every 1-3 years for best results. If you are receiving an MRI, please inform the technician that you have had an iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo. If you are planning to have laser treatments, you must cover your lip tattoo with 20% Zinc Oxide to avoid premature fading of your tattoo. If you are applying acidic or brightening skincare (AHA’s, retinol, peels, glycolic, salicylic acid, etc.) please first cover your lip tattoo with vaseline to avoid premature pigment fading.
If I get cold sores easily, am I A candidate for the procedure?
For lip blush, you will need to be on antivirals two weeks prior to the procedure.
Will I still have to wear lipstick? Can other colors still look the same on top?
This is up to the look each individual is trying to achieve. The colors I tattoo are natural and intended to look very natural. We can certainly enhance your natural color or add color if your lacking, or add a specific tint that you are looking for, but it remains soft and natural. That way when you do decide to change it up and want to wear lipstick it will still look great over top, and can cover your tattoo with whatever color we decide to use.

What color will my lips be?
You and your artist will discuss which colors suit you based on your natural lip color. Once your lips have healed, you may still enhance or change the color of your lips at any time with conventional makeup. Your new lip tattoo is designed to act as a base, so it doesn’t mean you should throw out your lipstick collection at all.
How will my lips look immediately after?
Your lips will look swollen and slightly larger than normal and look as though you may have had a slight lip filler injection. The degree of this varies from person to person. The pigment and lip color will look darker initially, like bold lipstick. The size of your lips will shrink back to normal and the color will significantly fade up to 50% within the first 4 days. You will lose color on the inside of your lips first, the edges last. Right after the procedure lips normally feel dry, chapped, tight, and tender to the touch. Similar to how a sunburn feels.
How long is the healing process?
Expect moderate swelling up to three days following the procedure. Scabbing may make the lips feel thick. Lip pigment color may fade up to 50% after the first few days. While healing your lip color will look spotty. This is due to the oxidation of the pigment and the regeneration of the skin. Multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired lip results. Your Complimentary Enhancement Session must be scheduled 6-12 weeks after your first initial appointment and is necessary in order to achieve that richness of color, achieve symmetry and density in the shape.
How often is a touch-up needed?
Lip color requires frequent touch-ups compared to other permanent makeup procedures due to the fact that the lips are very vascular and the body metabolizes the lip color at a rapid rate compared to other body parts which are not as vascularized. We recommend touch-ups every 1-3 years.
